Peer Reviewer Process

Our rigorous double-blind peer review ensures the highest standards of scholarly publishing

Overview

The SHAHEED ZIAUR RAHMAN MEDICAL COLLEGE (SZMCJ) employs a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, validity, and originality of all published research. Both the identities of the authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.

Review Process Steps

1
Submission & Initial Screening

The editorial office checks the manuscript for completeness, formatting compliance, and scope relevance. Manuscripts that do not meet basic requirements are returned to the author. Timeline: 3–5 business days.

2
Plagiarism Check

All submissions undergo plagiarism screening using industry-standard software (e.g., iThenticate/Turnitin). A similarity index above 20% may result in desk rejection. Timeline: 1–2 business days.

3
Editor Assignment

The Editor-in-Chief assigns the manuscript to a handling editor with expertise in the relevant field. Timeline: 2–3 business days.

4
Reviewer Selection & Invitation

The handling editor selects 2–3 qualified peer reviewers with expertise in the manuscript's subject area. Reviewers are invited to evaluate the manuscript. Timeline: 3–7 business days.

5
Double-Blind Peer Review

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript for originality, methodology, significance, clarity, and relevance. Both author and reviewer identities remain confidential. Timeline: 3–4 weeks.

6
Editorial Decision

Based on reviewer recommendations, the editor makes one of the following decisions: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject. Timeline: 3–5 business days.

7
Revision & Resubmission

If revisions are required, authors submit a revised manuscript with a point-by-point response to reviewers. Revised manuscripts may undergo further review. Timeline: 2–4 weeks (author dependent).

8
Final Acceptance & Publication

Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading before online publication. Timeline: 1–2 weeks.

Reviewer Evaluation Criteria

Reviewers assess manuscripts based on the following criteria:

  • Originality: Does the work present novel findings or ideas?
  • Methodology: Are the methods appropriate, well-described, and reproducible?
  • Significance: Does the work make a meaningful contribution to the field?
  • Clarity: Is the manuscript well-written and logically structured?
  • References: Are citations current, relevant, and comprehensive?
  • Ethics: Does the work comply with ethical standards?
